Welcome to BGCI's Education Portal
Botanic gardens and related institutions are in a powerful position to influence public thinking. Over 200 million people visit botanic gardens every year, about one in 33 of all people in the world. That is a huge audience, and with consistent, relevant messages, botanic gardens have an incredible opportunity to change behaviour and promote plant biodiversity. This website is designed to support botanic garden and other environmental educators in their work - and in doing so, help to create a world in which plant diversity is valued, secure and supporting all life. A successful community based cactus conservation project has been set up in Queretaro State in Mexico. The project, involving local school children, was set up in response to the identification of five threatened species of cactus in the semi-arid Bellavista del Rio region of Queretaro. 6th June 2008

International Diploma in Botanic Garden Education
BGCI and RBG Kew offer an international diploma course in education for botanic garden staff. Participants will learn education skills and strategies to get their message across effectively to varied audiences. The emphasis is on interactive learning. |
