Hit the Web and Save the Planet!
The Auckland Botanic Gardens features an innovative kid's trail led by super-spy, Agent Ani and her robo sidekick, Pax. Ani visits the gardens for school holiday programmes and gives kids tips in how to protect the environment. On the Garden trail, Agent Ani encourages kids to plant trees, look after the natural world and get involved in protecting the planet - and have fun at the same time! Agent Ani also has an exciting website. This highly interractive website features enough movies, games and activities to keep children entertained for hours. Kid ‘Agents’ are given ‘missions’ to carry out - from protecting stormwater drains to planting trees, and clearing smoggy air. Other fun web activities include model trains and buses that children can print and build, and online games, illustrating key environmental issues. In the ‘Clear Air’ game, players drive a bus that literally gobbles up the cars on the road (cutting down congestion), while skidding past oil slicks and smog created by other vehicles.
With the help of the trail’s host, cartoon superhero Agent Ani, protecting the environment is portrayed as cool, fun and important. The site is aimed at children between 7 and 12.
