It provides a framework for gardens to demonstrate how their work contributes to vital plant consevation initiatives, like the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. For example, contributions made by institutions to implement the International Agenda are reported by BGCI to the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) towards the achievement of the GSPC The Role of Botanic Gardens in Plant Conservation Botanic gardens play a key role in the conservation of the world's plant diversity and the education of people in environmental issues.
