This target is understood to refer to both informal and formal education at all levels, including primary, secondary and tertiary education. Key target audiences include not only children and other students, but also policy-makers and the public in general. Consideration should be given to developing specific indicators to monitor progress towards achievement of the overall target. It may be helpful to develop indicators for specific target audiences. Given the strategic importance of education about plant conservation, this issue should be included not only in environmental curricula, but should also be included in broader areas of mainstream education policy. Find Out More 6th Education Congress: Proceedings Now Available BGCI’s 6th International Congress on Education in Botanic Gardens in September has been billed as "the best ever". This unique gathering of the leading figures in botanic garden education inspired, motivated and brought people together. The Proceedings are now online - follow the link above. Big Answers to Big Questions Big Answers to Big Questions was an extensive public program about water, heritage landscapes and genetically modified organisms held at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney from March to August 2005. BABQ aimed to present new perspectives and give everyone the chance to contribute to informed debate. Roots with Shoots In 2003 Milner Gardens and Woodland (MG&W) began an intergenerational gardening program for schoolchildren (Shoots) and volunteer garden mentors (Roots), called “Roots and Shoots”. It is a hands-on nature/ecology program in which ‘Shoots' and 'Roots’ share laughter and learning. E4S Environmental Teaching Resources E4S provides teachers with lesson planning materials on the sustainable use of water, textiles and timber resources and issues surrounding waste management. These free online teaching resources and ideas will help you generate classroom activities.
