GPPC > The GSPC: 5 Themes
The GSPC: 5 ThemesIn the GSPC, 5 themes of work have been identified in which progress is needed for the resuce of plant diversity to be achieved. Within each theme, outlined below, there are some specific targets we can all contribute towards and which will allow progress to be measured. In total there are 16 global targets for rescuing plant diversity, and the deadline for meeting them has been set for the year 2010. The date of 2010 has been used to synchronize the Strategy with the Convention on Biological Diversity. The 16 targets provide a framework for policy formulation and a basis for monitoring. National targets developed within this framework may vary from country to country, according to national priorities and capacities, and taking into account differences in plant diversity. (E) Building Capacity for the Conservation of Plant DiversityThere are two targets in this theme. (D) Promoting Education and Awareness About Plant DiversityThere is one target in this theme. (A) Understanding and Documenting Plant DiversityThere are three targets in this theme. |
