Resource centre > NCCPG seek a new Chair
NCCPG seek a new ChairNational Council for the Conservation of Plants and GardensNCCPG seek a new ChairThe National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens, with its long-standing responsibility for the National Plant Collections® scheme, is entering a new stage in its mission. Embracing the aims of its Growing Heritage Action Plan for Conservation of Plants in Cultivation formally published last year with the Royal Horticultural Society, it seeks to establish a framework for prioritising the conservation of cultivated plants, proactively identifying which cultivated plants are at risk (beyond those in the National Collections) and developing strategies with other horticultural organisations to prevent their loss. David Goodchild, the current NCCPG Chairman, intends to step down this year, having been part of the Board since 2001 and in his time played a variety of roles, including a Group Collections Co-ordinator, a member of the Plant Conservation Committee and a Vice Chairman of Conservation. There is a full job description available on request, but, in principle, the charity seeks a leader who is able to think strategically and communicate effectively, with the ability to carry forward a successful programme of change as well as ensuring that the organisation is properly managed. An understanding of the voluntary sector would be useful along with an interest in gardening/horticultural matters. The time commitment for the role is 3–4 days per month, with only occasional visits to the National Office in Surrey. There are seven main meetings a year during the day, normally in London. Access to email is essential for this role. The appointment will initially be for a period of three years (with the potential for a further 1 three-year term). If you believe you could lead a friendly and passionate team of staff and volunteers, working to keep plants in cultivation, or can recommend any other individual who might be appropriate to being approached, please contact Genevieve Melbourne Webb, the Executive Officer, on 01483 447540 or email mailto:genevievemw@nccpg.org.uk Any names will be treated in confidence, and informal chats before making any commitment are also welcome. |
